September is just around the corner, and with that comes the autumn. Here we go through some tips on what clothes to have in mind before the important meeting. We also give two suggestions on how to dress formally but also a slightly more casual look, depending on the nature of the meeting you are attending.
We achieve a classic and formal style with this wool suit from Sweden’s Oscar Jacobson, a safe bet for an important business meeting. The double-breasted buttoning and the neutral dark blue colour give a stylish and well-dressed impression. The cut-away collar of the twill shirt lends itself well to your favourite Italian-quality tie.
A minimalist, dark grey suit from Oscar Jacobson forms the strong foundation of this look. With this turtleneck from Lanvin, a more relaxed feeling is created compared to a business shirt. The soft virgin wool, cashmere and silk provide an extra exclusive feel. Pair these with Loake 1880 Black Calf Leather Stripe Loafers, handcrafted in England. This elegant style offers both the confidence you need, as well as retaining a professional style. Replace the turtleneck with a white or light blue shirt with or without a tie depending on your style.
Company culture: Different companies have different dress codes. Some may have a more relaxed and casual culture where a polo shirt and blazer are acceptable, while others may have a more formal dress code that requires a traditional suit. Some may even have no dress code at all.
Meeting type: The type of business meeting is important. If it is a formal presentation, a meeting with clients, or a more conservative industry (e.g. finance or law), a traditional suit with a shirt and tie may be more appropriate.
Who are you meeting? If you are meeting with clients, key stakeholders or managers, it is generally a good idea to be more formal. If you know your meeting partners are from a more casual company, you can dress accordingly.
Location: The location of the meeting will affect your attire. If the meeting is taking place in a more exclusive or professional setting, you may want to formalise your outfit a bit more when compared to a coffee shop.
Personal style: While it is important to be professional, you also want to allow your personal style to shine through. An outfit can be both stylish and professional if it is well executed and matched with appropriate accessories.
Accessories: The choice of shoes, belts and accessories can enhance your look and contribute to a polished appearance, as well as adding a personal touch of details.
Colour choice: Stick to neutral, classic colours for a business meeting. Black, grey, navy and white are safe choices. Avoid strong or overly bright colours unless they are part of your company's identity.
Grooming: Well-groomed hair, clean nails and appropriate beard care are essential to maintaining a professional appearance.
Confidence: Wear something that makes you feel confident and comfortable and you will perform better. Your attire should help you present yourself effectively.
Fit: Regardless of the dress code - make sure your clothes fit well and are not too tight, too short in the sleeves or too loose.
