Only a handful of brands can claim to have had a whole category of clothing named after them, but Scotland’s Mackintosh is one of them. The story of its iconic Mac raincoat began in 1823, when Scotsman Charles Macintosh discovered a way of producing waterproof clothing through the use of rubberised cotton. Through the years, many brands have emulated Charles’ immensely successful design, but there can only be one original – an original that Mackintosh continues to produce to this day.

The iconic Mac continues to be produced entirely by hand, using rubberised cotton and glued seams to ensure the best possible waterproofing. In other words, this is a raincoat you can rely on whatever the weather, remaining just as elegant and functional in ten years time as it is on the first day you wear it.
