Inspiration, as we know, can come from a number of different sources. This week, it was the turn of the US state of Colorado and its history, culture, and environment to influence our outfit.

At the gateway to the American west lies the state of Colorado, a beautiful part of the country whose barren plains, green valleys, wide rivers, and rocky mountain peaks are almost a microcosm of the North American landscape. These shifting landscapes have long drawn people to the region, from fur trappers and goldminers looking to make their fortune in the early 19
th century to the millions of tourists who continue to visit the region year after year. Today, Colorado has become almost synonymous with the Rockies, the state-wide mountain chain whose slopes are home to countless ski resorts, hiking trails, and national parks.
Colorado is a region closely associated with the active lifestyle, something which is clearly reflected in its style. In this regard, the state can be divided into two main categories, the first of which takes inspiration from the state’s history, with a Western style inherited from the area’s cowboys and ranchers. The second is part of the more active lifestyle and comprises more contemporary activewear with a focus om functionality such as
Arc'teryx and
Woolrich. Our Outfit of the Week has been inspired by both of these two groups but leans more towards the classic Western look.
The checked
Buffalo plaid shirt with its iconic pattern was originally created by Woolrich sometime around 1850 and has been emblematic of the outdoor lifestyle ever since. Add a pair of classic jeans and robust boots from
Red Wing Shoes, and we have an outfit that we feel captures many of the characteristic elements of Colorado’s style legacy that, rather than being over-the-top or parodical, remains timelessly stylish.
